Windows 10 mail app crashes after launch

Another Windows silent update.  I experienced this within the past 3 days.

Mail app and Calendar app is freezing on Windows 10

1] If you are facing this issue, first make sure that your Windows 10 has all the latest Updates installed. Also ensure that there are no updates for Windows Store, Mail and Calendar apps pending. If you do see any updates pending, download and install them right away.

2] If this does not help, uninstall and reinstall the Mail and Calendar apps and see if it helps.

3] Open PowerShell as administrator and Run the following command:

Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online

4] Download the special troubleshooter from Microsoft and run it as administrator.

Surface 3 WiFi issues?

I experienced everything I read online regarding the Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 wireless network issues.  My surface is running Windows 10 (4GB / 128GB model). After wakeup from sleep – network won’t connect, when it does – connection is so slow, and un-usable.  I opened a ticket with Microsoft and their steps to resolve are below.  The steps below resolved my issues.

I still do have 5GHz issues – in where speed of wireless connection is very slow.  I’m using Aerohive AP230 as my AP (http://www.aerohive.com/products/access-points/ap230).  I have never had issues with these AP’s – they are rock solid.  I have Windows computers and Mac’s, iPhones etc. that connect just fine.

Here are the steps:

Run sfc/scannow from administrator command prompt (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833)

UNINSTALL WIFI

  1. Go to “Device Manager”
  2. Tap on “Network Adapters”
  3. Tap and hold on Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-N Network Controller
  4. Click on Uninstall
  5. Click on OK ( Do not delete the driver )
  6. Close all of the windows
  7. Restart your Surface.

The Marvell WiFi driver will reinstall itself when the Surface is restarted.

TWO-BUTTON SHUTDOWN

  1. Shut down the device fully by holding down the power button for 15 seconds and then release it. Verify if the device is fully shut down by tapping on the Windows logo, if you won’t feel it vibrating, then that means that the device is fully shut down.
  2. Then press and hold the volume up rocker first and then follow the power button, holding both at the same time for 10 seconds and then release both buttons after 10 seconds.
  3. Tap on the power button to try and power on the device.

MS Surface Support

Surface 3 Windows 10 Home TPM module enabled

I find this a bit odd.  Windows 10 supports Bitlocker encryption on Windows 10 Pro or higher.   I recently picked up a Surface 3, 4GB/128GB model & it came with Windows 10 Home edition.  I checked and there is a TPM 2.0 module installed, and Bitlocker is enabled by default.  Very nice.  I’m happy to see this as data security is important to me.  These Surface devices are handy and quality is top notch for sure.
